We arrived in Sorrento fairly late on Thursday evening and on our way to the hostel, found a street that led us to the water and provided us with the view below. In the picture, you can see the lights of the Pompeii area and the outline of Mt. Vesuvius.
Our hostel in Sorrento was the nicest that I have stayed in thus far. Now, I've only stayed in three, but almost all of the people that we talked to while we were there said that it was the nicest one they had stayed in as well. It had a fantastic rooftop terrace and a fun courtyard on the ground floor. The picture below is taken from the terrace, looking down on the courtyard.
We really enjoyed our time moseying around Pompeii. The entry fee was 11 Euro, but they had excellent free maps and information that made self-guiding tours easy and allowed us to explore what we wanted at our own pace.
There were, for whatever reason, a lot of stray dogs in Pompeii (and Sorrento). I have no idea what the story is there, but most of them kept to themselves and were usually crashed on the sidewalks, catching some sun and sleep.

Scale is hard to capture when you are taking pictures of a natural bowl of rocks. Let me just say that it's a big bowl of rocks.
