The Apartment and Florence

After arriving in Florence yesterday, we made our way from the airport to the CAPA Center downtown by taxi. Our driver did not disappoint. He was quite skilled, yammering on his cell phone, occasionally waving his free hand wildly. The "free" hand was the one not holding his cell phone. This hand seemed to be used primarily to express emotion and change gears, but was occasionally used to turn the steering wheel in the right, general direction.

The CAPA staff welcomed us and gave us some arrival information before sending us off to our apartment. The CAPA Center is where we will be taking our classes and they have a nice computer lab, which is where I am currently.

Our apartment is very nice, much nicer than the basement apartment with barred windows that I had first visualized. One window does have bars on the outside, but that is the only thing that our apartment shares with my imagined one. We (Jenny, Amanda, and I) each have our own well-furnished bedroom and bathroom. Two of the bedrooms have double doors that open into our small garden in the back. Our garden has two patio tables with chairs, an orange tree, and our washing machine. We also have a kitchen, complete with most of the utensils one would ever need.

This morning, we caught a bus near our apartment that took us downtown and then walked to CAPA. Along the way, we got some breakfast and coffee and our first coffee punch card (:
